Analysis of sound - Scream (Horror)
As soon as the movie starts it displays the title 'Scream' with a background noise of what sounds like a woman screaming, this immediately hints to the audience that the movie is horror as screaming can connote pain and violence. Shortly after there shows a woman answering the telephone to what seems to be a creepy voice, the voice is very croaky and unheard of creating the element of mystery and suspense. When the strange voice tells the woman that he can see her, dramatic music follows making the atmosphere more tense as now the audience are aware that some sort of altercation will be happening soon. You can also hear crickets in the background which tells the audience that the woman is completely isolated as it is so quiet that small things can be heard, this again emphasizes suspense and it also tells the audience that no one will hear the woman if/when she screams for help.
