Analysis Of The Use Of Sound In A Film Opening

Saw VII Opening Sequence
The use of sound in the opening sequence is used to create effect. Dialogue is used to convey plot information, whilst music is used to slowly build tension up throughout the scene. This creates more engaging viewing and showcases the general attitude of the piece as graphic and repulsive. Sound conventions from the horror genre are used such as disturbing and unsettling sounds. All these attributes are used to develop a more in depth insight into the storyline of the piece and to hook viewers in from the off set.
