Premlin Evaluation

We were given a random object and scenario and built our piece using these as a stimulus. Firstly we agreed upon a simplistic plot and created a storyboard to reference back to as our guide before filming commenced. I believe storyboarding and shot lists to be extremely important before creating the final big production. I was an actor and editor in the production of the piece. As an actor I struggled to be able to communicate our storyline due to experimental camera angles not focusing on what I believe was essential to my performance and purpose. I was able to develop my skills by working with my group and deciding to follow through with the directors decisions working around my abilities, changing and tweaking elements to create a better product. When editing I struggled to ensure camera shot changes were timed correctly and didn't look awkward or nonsensical. As a group we decided to reshot each scene multiple times to have a selection to choose from when putting the footage together. This enabled a smooth transition between scenes. I learnt the importance of the 180 degree rule and the significance of match cuts during production. The use of these allowed a smooth flow and a piece that made sense in terms of positioning on camera. The change between camera angles were very successful however the atmosphere wasn't emphasised by any sound element which made the piece somewhat unsuccessful in creating anticipation. Next time I will ensure sound is added to create effect and I will remove dialogue which I believe spoils the piece.
Example storyboard from my premlin production.
